For nearly two centuries
our faithful congregation has served and worshipped together. On November 1, 1818, four miles north of our present town of Mt. Vernon, a small group of devout Christians gathered in a new log cabin home. One month later, Illinois was granted statehood and admitted into the Union.

Membership continued to grow and in 1835, ground was purchased and a substanial frame building was constructed. The building served the community at large by also hosting civic and culturial events.
In 1854, members constructed a larger two story brick building only to rebuild again in 1888 after a horrific tornado swept across main street.
Passing through to the 1955 educational building addition, an 1888 stone archway serves along with the stained glass windows, memorial paintings, pictures, and plaques as a reminder of our rich heritage. The gospel that brought our founding families together still rings and chimes in our hearts today.
